Potential of Unrecord

As the scale of video games in terms of software and hardware is rising each year it has contributed to near-perfect virtual worlds that are getting closer to mirror the real world accurately. This is evident in the release of a gameplay trailer of an upcoming indie game 'Unrecord' a game where you play as a police officer stopping criminals this synopsis has become generic and old in recent years. However, that is not the main reason for its 80 million views on Twitter (Spindler, 2023) but rather its player’s camera as the game is viewed through the lens of the bodycam of the cop rather than the first-person perspective. This kind of perspective along with the realistic environment and animations has people questioning the trailer's authenticity on whether it is a game, animated film or real footage of bodycam. These doubts were cleared up by Alexander Spindler, the co-director of ‘Unrecord’ who released a short footage of the game development proving that it is a video game.

‘Unrecord' could potentially be a game-changing moment for the gaming industry as this would close the gap between real and virtual by a massive margin thus leading to more studios and developers following the footsteps of Alexander Spindler to create games that are inspired by him. This will also be a significant moment in gaming history when compared to the games that have defined the FPS genre like Counter-Strike, Half-Life and Doom are turning decades old with Doom being the oldest turning 30 this year.
