Wackiness of Deponia

The world of Deponia is a whimsical wasteland with humanity still living happily well except for one man Rufus who hates this place to the extent that he tries to escape from this wasteland by using rockets, balloons and hooks to get to Elysium a floating structure that is depicted as a paradise while failing to escape from his hell he meets Goal who is from Elysium and needs to report to her leaders about the inhabitants of Deponia thus starts a grand adventure. The series is mostly a 2D animated point-and-click adventure game similar to Monkey Island or Pink Panther: Passport to Peril where you mostly try to solve puzzles while the gameplay may seem simple its puzzle design is unique and can be quite challenging.

The series' main selling point is its story follows Rufus an egotistic bastard who will do anything to get his dream and is a walking red flag for relationships as evidenced by his Ex-girlfriend Toni, while his attitude can make him the villain in this game, he is however portrayed as the protagonist as tries to save goal and Deponia from its destruction planned by the military forces of Elysium. As we follow his adventure, we also get to learn more about Deponia, how people live in these conditions, the whacky creatures that live on this planet and how people view Rufus. The story delivers some gem of a comedy but due to the nature of the protagonist it does not elevate the humour overall and while the side characters are interesting and unique they are immediately sidelined at the ending which devalues their existence in the story.

Overall, this series is fun and unique but would not recommend it personally this game may work for those who love puzzle solving as this game excels well in that category but due to its simple narrative-based game this would not be for the general gamers it can be either seen bit bland or unfunny.
