Nostalgia of Prince of Persia

Growing up, gaming captivated me from an early age from small backseat gaming to a casual gamer looking at prices for the games and only buying them at massive discounts or even free. During my time as a hypnotized backseat gamer, I have always found the games that my brother played to be the most fascinating time pass as I get to see how my brother overcomes challenges and the visual tapestry that reacts to my brother's actions. One of the games that my brother played was the Prince of Persia, more specifically 3D, The Two Thrones and Revelations (Warriors Within) at that time we never heard of the game's popularity at the time only that my brother found it cool to play.

Prince of Persia 3D was the first entry of a game that my brother played it was the most confusing game to play as vividly remember that he got stuck at the very start of the game in a jail cell which we couldn't escape before discovering a section of the wall weak enough to be pushed it took hours, days and numerous restarts thinking that the game was bugged afterwards he pushed forward in the game solving complex puzzles and fighting the enemies although my brother couldn't complete it due to its puzzles and enemies being very difficult and frustrating there was one moment in the game which was worthy to highlight was when you received the sword by pushing down a block on top of a guard which prompts the sword to appear at dead guard which was the most exciting part of the game.

Once my brother got the PSP, we played Prince of Persia Two Thrones with no knowledge of the previous games it was a fun and exciting game with its parkour and we were impressed by the sheer skills the prince had as we saw him effortlessly wall run vertically and horizontally. Along with an amazing combat system that blew my mind as I witnessed numerous decapitations at an age that you are not supposed to witness. With the mechanic to manipulate time this has produced numerous saves in the games as obstacles and enemies would sometimes prove to be more difficult to handle. There were sections of the game that proved to be more difficult to handle with the first being the statue puzzle as it days to try and figure out the solution. The second is the boss battle of the twin warriors as my brother messes up the timing of kills and their attack patterns are difficult to keep up with. Third is the underground section where you play as the dark prince in which we must traverse through the labyrinth underground while also dealing with our health being gradually reduced due to being the dark prince as my brother died multiple times and has restarted from the early checkpoint of the level. But it was the Final boss that ended my brother's playthrough as he was proven to be the most difficult boss he ever faced. While it was fun to see my brother's playthrough of the game it was slightly frustrating when my brother couldn't get these issues as it led to boredom. The two highlights of the game were the boss battles between the giant and the sand lady. The battle with the giant is super satisfying as the brother perfectly times the prompts which delivers a satisfying finishing blow to the giant by only using the dagger. Then the battle of the sand lady made it difficult to land a decent hit on her but once we transformed into the dark prince it immediately changed the playing field as she would try to flee away from us instead of fighting which made it satisfying as he ends her life.

Afterwards, my brother played Warrior Within also known as Revelations on PC which slightly made the game a bit challenging as the combat became difficult due to the control schemes on the keyboard and mouse. However, it was still as fun as the Two Thrones but now with the element of Horror as we get chased by the Dahaka a towering dark entity who you cannot fight with the only option being to run which made it intense to properly do parkour as we only managed the parkour at slow paced but with the chase it made the parkour section of the games to be more challenging and scary with soundtrack and atmosphere making me horror in a game for the first time in my life. While the game was impressive with its background and level design it eventually became slightly on where to go as we got stuck in some sections of the game however it was the boss battle of the griffin that proved to be difficult due to being under the influence of the time wraith’s mask which gradually decreases the health and being unable to massive damage against the boss made it unplayable. Major highlights would be the introduction of Shahdee, a mysterious woman who nearly killed the prince while also being stunningly beautiful and each chase sequence as Dahaka proved to be the most terrifying thing about the game than any other enemies and bosses.

This series, made an impact on my gaming journey as I later got my hands on The Forgotten Sand which I played and finished within a few days as I did something which my brother hadn't done in the entire playthrough of this series which was completing it. At first, I didn't think about it as these games that I played and watched when I was very young but when writing this article, it made me realize my gaming journey which filled me with immense nostalgia that made fun and sad memories that left trails of my gaming journey. This enabled me to create a timeline of my journey through various games and consoles that had come and gone by writing this I hope to remind myself and others that our journey in gaming whether casual or competitive is something to be treasured in our life.
