OMORI, the game that captured the heart of the internet
In my years of spending time on the internet, I have seen a few hints about OMORI, an RPG game that is regarded as a heart-wrenching game that will leave you with an overwhelming emotion based on the way you played the game. So, I have decided to see for myself how this game plays with our emotions. You play as a young boy locked in his home who dreams up a whimsical world where he and his friends go on numerous adventures and he is known as OMORI. The world in which OMORI lives is very charming and somewhat accurately captures a child’s imagination with talking animals, narcissistic princesses, space pirates, cute ghosts and a super friendly whale.
While the fantasy is very attractive and quirky it is then we slowly decide to ask questions not about the world but the boy who made OMORI and the magical world, as we question the game why is locked up in a house and who or what is behind that boy? The game utilizes pixel and pencil sketches to illustrate the world and numerous characters along with their emotions which is a battle mechanic of the game that uses three emotions anger, sadness and happiness as these affect the stats that could make things easier or harder when battling each cute/scary enemy.
While the game is simple to understand it is its story that sells the game as it deals with issues of death, fear and loss. As I finished this game it made my eyes glazed with tears as this game has constructed the magnificent tragedy of childhood as one action can have a traumatizing impact on you and the friends you hold dear to your heart. I would highly recommend this game with a bit of warning to those sensitive to the topics which the game deals with.
