The joy of understanding a language with Chants of Sennar

Chants of Sennar is one of the unique puzzle games that is inspirational for people to try learning a new language. The whole experience of playing this game reminded me of mythical fantasy as you not only learn the language but also the many cultures within this fantasy. The game is inspired by the story of The Tower of Babel. As you try to climb up the tower by solving various puzzles locked behind a language barrier as you study each letter and translate between each language.

The art style for this game is excellent as it uses colour themes with simple designs for each level. An example would be the warrior’s level being depicted with teal, cyan and maroon to represent them as an intimidating force to encounter. Whereas the bard’s level is depicted with white and gold to represent them as superior beings. With all level design being simple it elevates all the differences between each level as it stands out among the background, this usually through certain landmarks like statues or buildings but it can also be through stone craving or paintings.

While this game made me scratch my brain for a long period of time it still provided a wonderful experience with my only complaint being short and the last level of the game was the dull and unsatisfying.
